The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Denies Prabowo's Claim Regarding Indonesia Not Rated Worldly
Jakarta, CNN Indonesia - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has denied the statement of presidential candidate number 02, Prabowo Subianto, who called Indonesia less respected abroad in the presidential debate in the 2019 presidential election on Saturday (3/30) night. They stated that Indonesia's diplomacy over the past four years was praised and appreciated by the world.
According to the Foreign Ministry spokesman, Arrmanatha Nasir, this form of diplomacy was Indonesia's role in the issue of Rohingya ethnic persecution in Rakhine State, Myanmar.
"Indonesia also plays a role in fighting for independence and helping the Palestinian people and efforts to support peace in Afghanistan," Arrmanatha said through written information received by CNNIndonesia.com on Sunday (31/3).
Furthermore, Arrmanatha said, so far Indonesia had also helped develop the Indopasific concept, so that ASEAN had a joint concept that put forward cooperation to maintain peace, stability, and prosperity of the region.
Arrmanatha claims Indonesia has a role in protecting migrant workers in ASEAN.
"Indonesia also plays a role in sub-regional cooperation to overcome foreign terrorist fighters in the region," Arrmanatha said.
In the overnight presidential debate session, Prabowo acknowledged the achievements of Jokowi's administration in the Rakhine conflict. But he considers there are things that are less respected outside Indonesia because of a lot of debt, weak currencies, and imported food.
"I emphasize that we want to be a mediator, so a nice guy to reconcile is not a problem. I admit that it is the Jokowi government. But there are things that you don't feel we are not respected outside Indonesia," Prabowo said.
