Sources told the Stuff news website the defendant claimed he was not accepted to receive guests and talk by telephone.

The man is now in a solitary cell in Paremoremo Prison located in Auckland and is considered the most difficult in New Zealand.

how come the defendant protested?

The defendant was sent to Paremoremo Prison as soon as his first session was completed in Christchurch on March 16, the day after the attack.

Stuff said the defendant protested to the Department of Corrections that he did not get fundamental rights, especially cell phone calls and meeting visitors.

As stipulated in the Penal Code, a detainee has the right to receive one guest per week for at least 30 minutes.

Prisoners also have the right to talk on cellphones at least once per week.

In addition, detainees are entitled to adequate food and drink, beds, health services, and sports.

The source of the Correctional Department told Stuff: "He was constantly monitored and isolated. He did not accept the basic rights normally granted. So there was no cell phone talk and no visitors."

According to the Department of Corrections website, "prisoners have the right to be treated humanely, respectfully and with dignity while in prison".

However, the department concerned can impose rights restrictions in certain situations. Mentioned, rights can be limited if detainees are separated "for the purpose of security, order, safety, or for the purpose of protecting prisoners".

This can also be accepted if the security of the prison, or the security of others, is threatened.

What was applied to the defendant?

A spokesman for the Correctional Department confirmed to New Zealand media that the detainee had no access to the media or visitors.

He added, the defendant was treated according to the Penal Code and "for reasons of operational security, additional information will not be provided".

Stuff says the prisoner is believed to be placed in a cell with a door connected to a concrete floor that can be used for one hour per day. He is called "obedient".

The defendant is scheduled to still be tried in Christchurch via a video connection.

So far he has been charged with murder, but other charges are expected to increase.

50 people were killed in the attack on two mosques on March 15. Some of the attacks were uploaded directly using Facebook social media

The court decided the face of the defendant should be obscured in photographs at the trial. It is estimated that he will represent himself in the trial.

How did the people of New Zealand recover?

New Zealanders are still trying to recover after the attack took place. More than 20,000 people attended the mourning event in Hagley Park, Christchurch City, which was attended by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

At the event, a number of people expressed a message of rejection of extremism and embracing humanity.

Ardern said: "We are not immune to hate viruses, fear ... We are never immune, but we can be a nation that finds the cure."

Farid Ahmed, the survivor of the attack but lost his wife in a shooting at a mosque, called for peace while saying he had forgiven the perpetrator.

Cat Stevens, who bears the name of Muslim, Yusuf Islam, sings his songs titled Peace Train and Don't Be Shy.

All the names of 50 dead victims were read on the program, which included men, women and children. The youngest victim is only three years old.

So far there are still 22 victims who are trying to recover in hospitals, including a four-year-old girl who suffered a serious injury.
