Losing repeatedly, May Still Insists on Submitting Brexit Proposal

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia - British Prime Minister Theresa May still has not given up on proposing a scheme for an agreement to exit the European Union (Brexit). Despite being rejected three times by parliament, he plans to submit a fourth proposal.

Kalah Berkali-kali, May Masih Berkeras Ajukan Proposal Brexit

As reported by CNN, Sunday (31/3), Chairman of the British Conservative Party, Brandon Lewis, did not provide details whether the draft proposal May still the same as before. However, he said he would consider all options because the Brexit deadline which had been postponed was getting closer.

"Parliament will continue this process next Monday," Lewis said.

On Friday (29/3), May lost again in a vote in parliament when submitting a Brexit proposal. He even seemed almost desperate and worried that Britain would get out of EU membership without an agreement (no deal).

"I am afraid we have reached the limit in the process in this Assembly," May said.

May now hopes the cabinet and parliament can carry out other voting procedures out of the ministry's control next week.

The reason May returned to risk his proposal about Brexit, although he was not sure he would get it. He reasoned he only wanted to keep the economy and the pound exchange rate from falling, if they really left the European Union.

"I urge all MPs to support it and ensure we leave the European Union, and provide certainty to the community and business world," said government representative Andrea Leadsom, when reading May's proposal before parliament.

If the proposal submitted by May is agreed to by the British parliament, then Brexit will take place on May 22, but if not, then May will face the European Union before April 12 to explain the next steps of the UK.

One of the important decisions that must be made is regarding the relationship between Britain and the European Union in the future.

Previously, May continued to emphasize the British interest in maintaining economic relations as close as possible to the European Union.

However, a number of parties want the UK to truly exit the European Union without any agreement, a move that has sparked fears of business people. The European Union is now preparing to face a no-deal Brexit situation on 12 April.

The European Assembly President, Donald Tusk, has set a time to invite members to negotiate on the latest situation in Brexit.
